The work includes the decommissioning of the coal-fired power station in Amsterdam. The exchange had to be removed completely. After careful preparations and planning, dismantling began. First of all, hazardous materials such as asbestos were removed. Once the buildings and components had been cleaned and released, the actual demolition began. That didn't just happen with heavy machinery; in some cases, disassembly was done manually with great precision. The boiler was completely stripped. After all asbestos-containing applications, ceramic materials and insulation were removed, the 6,000-ton boiler was cut into small parts and removed.
The chimney was equipped with a steel inner jacket with asbestos-containing parts. By using an ingenious method with Strand-Jacks by hoisting and lowering the complete inner pipe, all harmful materials, including the inner pipe, have been professionally removed from the chimney. The 171 meter high concrete chimney was then removed by cutting it away from above, with the chimney itself serving as a chute. The 150 MW gas turbine and generator have been dismantled. These parts are packaged, preserved and transported for reuse.
In addition to the 15,732 tons of metals, a total of 25,219 tons of concrete were removed. A satisfied customer says: “DDM was responsible for the complete dismantling, asbestos removal, disassembly, demolition, separation and disposal of the entire (technical) installation and buildings. The project was carried out with a professional team and with modern machines and tools.
